Where you begin should never determine where you can go.
Bridge250 Zimbabwe is a proposed answer to a specific problem: too much Zimbabwean talent is separated from the ideas, teachers and networks that turn potential into practical work.
A quiet, stubborn conviction.
The distance between a young person in Chitungwiza, Gweru, Bulawayo or Mutare and a useful opportunity should not be permanent. It should be crossable, in one focused, well-designed programme.
Talent should not be limited by postcode, background or proximity to opportunity. This is the programme philosophy of Bridge250, not a funded delivery location under the current proposal.
Chitungwiza shaped the belief.
The creative vision for Bridge250 was inspired by Taz Mukoko, a Zimbabwean digital product builder who grew up in Chitungwiza and later built a career in technology, innovation and digital transformation in the United Kingdom. He is a founding inspiration, not the centre of this application. The centre is a generation of young Zimbabweans who deserve the same kinds of doors he had to search for.
"Born from a belief shaped in Chitungwiza, piloted in Gweru and designed to travel across Zimbabwe."
Gweru is the proposed pilot.
The current U.S. Embassy Harare funding opportunity is specifically focused on American Corner Gweru. Bridge250 is proposed as the flagship 12-month programme for that space. Gweru is a serious, well-placed Midlands city with a strong civic culture and a young population ready to engage.
Three carefully sequenced phases.
The Gweru Pilot
A full 12-month programme delivered through American Corner Gweru, with 150 participants across five pathways.
Shared digital resources
A curriculum, facilitator toolkit and recorded content that any partner venue can pick up and adapt.
Future community pilots
Careful expansion into further Zimbabwean communities, subject to separate funding and partnerships.
A national ambition, delivered one pilot at a time.
We are not proposing an experiment. We are proposing a first, well-run bridge, with a plan for many more. Every design choice, from curriculum to alumni model to data collection, is built so the programme can be trusted, evaluated and continued.
